Jesus Montalvo
I’m 39 years old, and I was born in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico. I have a daughter whose name is Julianne Kahoru Montalvo, she is 13 years old. I have 3 brothers and 1 sister. I am really proud of my family, especially Douwyna Montalvo and Reggie Montalvo who both play Volleyball at the college level.
John Montalvo, my nephew, is 15 years old and is ranked in the top best players in the state of Florida for his age group. I am very proud because they all had the opportunity to play for the High Performance Volleyball Program for Team Florida. I started playing volleyball at age 13 in Puerto Rico. When I played in middle school for Elpidio H. Rivera and Colegio San Benito in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico, I was ranked in the top 10 best Players in middle school and High School. In 1989 I received the academic- athletic scholarship for Colegio San Benito to play volleyball and basketball. I started coaching mini league basketball and volleyball in 1997 for ages 13 under, and the team took 3rd place in Puerto Rico.
During 1997- 2000 I continued to play volleyball on the pre professional league, and received awards for best offensive player, most valuable player and I continued coaching mini league. From 2000-02 I played Professional Basketball with Gallitos de Isabela in Puerto Rico. During the years that I played basketball for the University of Bonaterra in Aguascalientes, Mexico, I studied digital engineering. In 2002 I signed to play professional basketball in Ponce Puerto Rico. I was the head coach at the high school level for Academia Inmaculada Concepcion in Puerto Rico, and when I coached they had a successful season and took 2nd place, and they were consecutive tournament champions. I continued to study and kept my academic athletic scholarship for volleyball, basketball and beach volleyball on PUCPR in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico. I received the best student-athlete award in 2003 and 2004 when the volleyball team took 3rd place. I was a versatile player and I played outside hitter for 2 years, right side hitter and setter for one year and libero for one year. I continued coaching for 5 years for Pequenas Indias volleyball Club in Mayaguez.
I graduated in 2005 PUCPR in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico. I majored in physical education to teach at the high school level and minored in elementary school education. I continued studying for a masters degree at PUCPR in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico in curriculum of physical education and physiology in sports. I moved to Ocala Florida in 2007 and I started assistant coaching for Marion County Juniors.
In 2008-09 I was the head coach for the JV team and the assistant coach for varsity volleyball at Trinity Catholic High School. I was the head coach for Marion County Juniors 15 Elite and the team was very successful playing in the open division at USAV tournaments. In 2009-10 I was the coaching director for Marion County Juniors and the head coach for the 16 Elite, and I built the first boys volleyball program for Marion County. In 2010 I was the JV head coach and varsity assistant coach at Vanguard High school in Ocala when they went to the final four and I continued coaching for Marion County Juniors. In 2011 I was the JV Head Coach and varsity assistant coach at Forest High School. The boys program on 2011-12 season finished undefeated in the 14 and under division. During 2010-12 I had the opportunity to be a part of the High Performance volleyball program as an assistant coach. In 2012-13 I had the tournament director position, skills director position, boy’s director and head coach at Marion County Juniors. I am currently the head coach at The Villages Charter School and for the first time in school history I lead the team to the district championship. We took runner up and advanced to regionals. 2013-14 Head Coach Villages Runner Up District. Head Coach Boys 14 Under and 18 Under - AAU Boys Nationals - 3rd Place Open,3rd Place 18's Open Division AAU Boys Nationals, 3rd Place Boys Open 14 Division - Richmond, Virginia Bid Tournament.
I was selected as a Candidate for FHSAA Head Coach of the Year. In 2013 I was the assistant coach for the HP Volleyball Team Florida. I continue as the head coach at The Villages High School and became the JV head coach at Saint John’s Middle school, and I am looking forward to building the 352 Elite Volleyball Academy.
